AI as a Professional Support Tool: Practical AI Tools for CTE Teachers
Tuesday July 21, 2026 1:00pm - 2:30pm EDT
Artificial intelligence is changing the way we work, including the work of teachers. In this interactive session, CTE educators will explore how to use AI as a professional support tool for lesson planning, assessment design, instructional material creation, and other high-impact tasks. The session will be co-led with AI Fellows participating in a statewide CTE initiative, who will share tested examples and practical insights from their experiences.Rather than focusing on AI tricks, this session introduces repeatable prompts and practical processes for using AI responsibly and strategically. Participants will generate and refine lesson components aligned to pathway standards, design authentic performance tasks, and elevate instructional materials while maintaining strong alignment to program expectations. Throughout the session, we will emphasize how AI can support high-quality, standards-aligned instruction while preserving teacher judgment and professional expertise.Participants will actively test AI tools and strategies during the session and leave with ready-to-use prompts, example workflows, and adaptable resources they can immediately implement in their CTE classrooms.

Teaching Business In a "Concrete" Way
Tuesday July 21, 2026 1:00pm - 2:30pm EDT
Five percent of our entire economy is construction. As Mike Rowe says, AI won't build your house. Business skills are threatened by AI, but utilizing those skills in a hands-on way will not be replaced. Eastern Kentucky University's Construction Management Program requires classes in Estimating, Engineering the Economy, Contracts, Scheduling, Survey of Accounting, Principles of Management, Microeconomics, Business Law and Ethics, and Computer Applications in Technology. Many of these classes are skills we are already teaching. Make business and community partnerships with these hands-on programs that will not be replaced. Steer your students in the direction of these new high-needs areas.

Hard Hats, Bright Futures! How Gen-Z is Redefining Success and Embracing Careers in Skilled Trades
Tuesday July 21, 2026 1:00pm - 2:30pm EDT
Hard Hats! Bright Futures! How Gen Z Is Redefining Success explores how today’s students are reshaping postsecondary decision-making and what that means for effective school counseling. Designed for counselors and advisors, this session reframes postsecondary education as a set of multiple, equally valid pathways—including apprenticeships, skilled trades, technical education, community colleges, and four-year degrees—rather than a single hierarchy. Participants will examine labor market realities in Kentucky, unpack common data and advising biases that unintentionally elevate one path over others, and gain concrete strategies for helping students identify best-fit options based on interests, learning style, financial realities, and career goals. The presentation highlights Kentucky-specific workforce data, CTE pathways, apprenticeships, and stackable credentials, equipping counselors with practical tools and language to confidently guide students and families toward informed, aligned postsecondary choices in a “college and careers” reality.

Cultivating Capacity for AI Leadership in Schools
Tuesday July 21, 2026 4:00pm - 4:50pm EDT
As artificial intelligence rapidly enters classrooms, schools are facing pressure to adopt tools faster than they can fully understand their impact. This session takes a balanced approach to AI in education, grounded in research, child development, and lessons learned from past waves of technology adoption accelerated by COVID.Participants will examine national trends in AI use, school spending, and emerging evidence on inequities, unintended harms, and engagement-driven design. Rather than framing AI as something to race toward or resist, this session centers the need for pre-investment in capacity, guardrails, and shared understanding to avoid repeating mistakes made during large-scale edtech adoption. This session explores who should lead AI decision-making, how to evaluate tools through a developmental and instructional lens, and how to build staff and student readiness before implementation. Participants will leave with strategies to guide AI use thoughtfully, align decisions with student well-being and learning goals, and lead with clarity during uncertainty. This session focuses on leadership, preparation, and systems-level thinking rather than reactive adoption.

EV Education on a Budget: Preparing Kentucky’s Automotive Instructors for the Future
Tuesday July 21, 2026 4:00pm - 4:50pm EDT
As the electric vehicle (EV) industry rapidly evolves, Kentuckys automotive instructors are on the frontlines preparing a future-ready workforce. Yet for many under-resourced high schools, area technology centers, and community colleges, launching EV instruction feels financially out of reach. This session introduces a low-cost, high-impact EV curriculum model funded by the National Science Foundations Advanced Technological Education (NSF ATE) program. Designed with input from high school educators, regional employers, the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), and technical faculty, this initiative will equip instructors with the tools, knowledge, and support to bring EV fundamentals into existing automotive pathwayswithout requiring new degrees or expensive equipment.Participants will learn how the project is building a sustainable train-the-trainer network across Kentucky, creating accessible professional development, and adapting content for different teaching environments and equipment. Whether youre a CTE teacher in a rural high school or a community college faculty member exploring industry-aligned EV modules, this session offers practical strategies and partnership opportunities. Attendees will also hear about free professional development opportunities and learn how they can join the statewide effort to modernize automotive instruction for the electric future.Attendees will leave with:A glimpse into Jeffersons EV Technician certificate and how it connects to broader curriculum developmentPractical insights and a preview of Jeffersons approach to adapting EV principles for secondary and post-secondary settings with limited budgetsInformation on upcoming professional development opportunities and how to get involved as a partner and receive free, on-site assistanceStrategies to prepare their own programs for EV-related curriculum integration, aligned with regional workforce needsThe opportunity to complete a short survey to inform the design and delivery of the projects train-the-trainer program

Beyond the Certification: Why the Process Matters for Students with Disabilities
Tuesday July 21, 2026 4:00pm - 5:30pm EDT
Industry credentials matterbut they are only part of the story. While certifications represent the product, durable employability skills such as problem-solving, communication, adaptability, and persistence are developed through the learning process students engage in while earning them. This session challenges CTE educators to design instruction that builds both intentionally.Participants will explore the distinction between product (credential attainment) and process (skill development) and examine why many students earn certifications yet struggle to transfer skills to real-world settings. Grounded in the Predictors of Postschool Success (PISA), this session highlights how structured practice, feedback, collaboration, and authentic problem-solving experiences directly strengthen postsecondary and employment outcomes. The session will also connect Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to transition-focused instruction. Educators will examine how multiple means of engagement, representation, and action/expression can intentionally support IEP transition goals while strengthening workforce readiness for all studentsincluding those with disabilities.Through examples, reflection activities, and practical strategies, participants will leave with actionable approaches to embed employability skill development into existing CTE coursework without sacrificing credential attainment.

Using Linux to Enhance Web Design Instruction
Tuesday July 21, 2026 4:00pm - 5:30pm EDT
After your students have designed their gorgeous websites, how can they share them with the world? The answer is a Linux web server! My district will never let students upload websites to the wide open Internet! I hear some of you say. Fear not! Its incredibly easy to have a local server where your students can upload their sites and only students in your classroom can see them. During this presentation, some of the things we will cover are 1) why exposure to Linux is important for budding web designers, 2) how you can setup Linux using just my Windows PC, 3) Linux commands any user should know, 4) and how students can connect and upload their work to a Linux server. Instructional videos and PDF cheat sheets will be provided that can be used free of charge in your classrooms.
