Everyone Goes to Work: Work-Based Learning for Transitioning Students
Wednesday July 22, 2026 8:00am - 8:50am EDT
This session describes how a rural district redesigned work‑based learning to expand access and meaningful employment experiences for students with disabilities, including those in MSD programs, by moving from limited, one‑size‑fits‑all placements to a broader, flexible model that overcame rural barriers like transportation, few employers, and staffing limits. It covers building sustainable local business partnerships, adapting job roles for diverse learners, aligning IEP transition goals with authentic workplace skills, and preserving compliance while maintaining high expectations. Attendees will learn strategies for preparing students before, during, and after placements through collaboration with special education staff and community partners and receive practical resources, planning templates, employer communication tools, and student readiness checklists, along with interactive discussion, to leave with actionable steps for strengthening inclusive work‑based learning in rural and small communities.

Surviving Your First Years of Teaching: Emotions, Classroom Foundations, and High-Yield Strategies
Wednesday July 22, 2026 9:00am - 9:50am EDT
New teachers don't struggle because they lack effort or care. They struggle because no one teaches them how to survive the emotional and structural realities of the job. This session is designed for early-career educators and those who support them. Drawing from classroom experience and the forthcoming book Surviving Your First Years of Teaching, this presentation explores the often-unspoken emotional challenges of year one and beyond, alongside the classroom foundations that actually make teaching sustainable. Participants will examine common myths about natural teachers, the hidden causes of burnout, and the emotional load that comes with managing students, systems, and expectations. From there, the session shifts into high-yield strategies: practical classroom structures, routines, and decision-making frameworks that reduce stress, improve student engagement, and protect teacher longevity. Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of why the first years feel so destabilizing, along with concrete tools they can apply immediately to create calmer, more effective classrooms that last.

From Classroom to Career: Teaching with AI the Way Industry Uses It
Wednesday July 22, 2026 10:00am - 11:30am EDT
If students are to encounter AI in their future careers, our classrooms should reflect how AI is actually used in industry. Engineering Fundamental Labs for a Solid Foundation
Wednesday July 22, 2026 1:00pm - 2:30pm EDT
Across Kentucky, universitiesincluding University of Kentucky and University of Louisvilleare expanding Applied Engineering programs designed to reach a broader range of students. These programs place less emphasis on advanced calculus and greater focus on hands-on, practical laboratory experiences. To succeed in these pathways, students need a strong foundation in core concepts that support labs in statics, dynamics, materials, electrical and electronics, and fluid powerskills central to nearly every applied engineering program. High-quality, sustainable lab equipment plays a critical role in helping students build confidence, stay engaged, and persist in these programs. Growing High-Impact CTE Programs Through Communication, Data Reflection, and Partnerships. Highlights and Successes from a top 5% career readiness KY high school
Wednesday July 22, 2026 4:00pm - 5:30pm EDT
In my service as our CTE Coordinator I have coordinated with our students, leadership team, CTE departments, and community stakeholders to identify areas of strength and areas of needed growth in our CTE programs. This systems-based approach has supported significant growth in post-secondary readiness the last few school years, with our school earning the highest postsecondary readiness score in its history on recent state accountability measures. This session highlights the key strategies that drove that growth. Our work centered on elevating student voice, restructuring scheduling through advocacy to ensure pathway access and clarity in communication, informational posters that are personalized to our school/district, highlighted communications through our school news program and our local news programs within our community, reflecting on workforce and accountability data to align programs with employability trends and community needs. Through strong PLC collaboration, shared leadership among counselors and pathway teachers, intentional community partnerships, and the implementation of a readiness tracker, we created a unified, outcomes-driven CTE system. Participants of this session have opportunity to gain practical strategies that have been utilized by our team that have supported team alignment, practical and repeatable data reflection, and building pathways and learning opportunities that meet specific student needs. This session would be appropriate to be attended by administrators, counselors, and CTE instructors.
