Empowering Instruction: Effective Strategies for Teaching Medical Terminology
Tuesday July 21, 2026 4:00pm - 4:50pm EDT
Medical terminology is a foundational skill for all health science learners, yet many students struggle with the volume, complexity, and abstract nature of medical language. This session equips educators with a toolkit of evidence-based instructional strategies that make medical terminology accessible, memorable, and engaging. Participants will explore practical techniques that support diverse learners, strengthen vocabulary retention, and foster deeper comprehensionwhile reducing cognitive overload.Through interactive demonstrations, collaborative discussions, and ready-to-use classroom examples, attendees will learn how to scaffold instruction, integrate real-world applications, and leverage technology to enhance understanding. This session emphasizes strategies that promote active learning, including morphological analysis, visual mapping, chunking, gamification, and contextualized case-based learning. Educators will leave with adaptable resources and renewed confidence in teaching complex terminology effectively.
