This 6-hour course teaches how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of addiction and mental illness in youth. Participants will learn risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents ages 12-18. Learners will understand the importance of early intervention and will be certified first aiders upon completion of this session.

I play several different types of games in my medical terminology course. I know several teacher want to make medical terminology more engaging and I hope to do just that. I would like to show attendees several of the different games I play with my classes including: Spinny Wheel, Flipping Review, On a Roll, and Spoons. I have a high pass rate on my medical terminology final, so I know these games are effective and would love to share them with other instructors around the state.

This simulator allows students to practice accurate lead placement through rib palpation and gain familiarity with interpreting 3-, 4-, 5-, and 12-lead rhythms. At this session we will give instructors an introduction to the software and curriculum. Learn how to integrate this simulator seamlessly, offering individual practice and assessment opportunities to strengthen rhythm reading and lead placement skills. This innovative learning environment features realistic simulated spaces, including operating rooms, anatomy labs, hospital rooms, collaborative learning areas, and more. In this breakout session, educators will explore how to partner with the HealthForce team to design purposeful, curriculum-aligned field trips that go beyond observation and place students at the center of learning. Discover how simulation-based experiences can increase engagement, build career awareness, and help shape students' futures.
SOS Education Program presentation is intended to introduce allied health teachers to our program and support with medical supplies, as well as update our current teacher partners on new procedures and opportunities.
Depending on your needs, we offer a variety of free, customizable trainings on trauma and suicide prevention. Options include 1–2 hour educational presentations with no participant limit, as well as focused trainings such as QPR (1 hour, up to 50 participants), Trauma-Informed Care (1 hour, no limit), and safeTALK (half-day, 10–30 participants), which builds suicide awareness and response skills. Code Red: Universal Safety Planning (1 hour, up to 30 participants) teaches participants to create personal safety plans. Many trainings are suitable for both youth and adults, and instructor training is also available.
This session will provide background and an overview of the outreach efforts offered by the University of Kentucky College of Medicine to to Kentucky high schools. Much of this outreach is coordinated and delivered by current medical students, with a goal to reach every Kentucky county during a year. The program aims to expand this year, offering more programming and flexibility; however, the first step to reach as many people as possible during the summer months who can help facilitate delivery of said programming.
